Default Game Devs discourage farming? new pop up msg i have not seen before

sorry if it's common knowledge : but most people i talked to so far have not seen this pop up message before.

I was trying to get 5 dune burrower jaws for collector armour. There happened to be a dune burrower just outside thirsty river : so i went out, killed it, then reset the map. After doing this 10 times I got a pop up (the sort which happens in pre searing, for example, when you pick up your first loot) - the pop up said "repeatedly resetting a map and killing the first few monsters will cause them to run low on loot, it is better for you to play through the mission fully"

o_o

Anyone know if this is true or not? I can't say for sure, but there were a few times that particular Dune Burrower did not drop anything at all. I was only after the Burrower Jaws, so I didn't really notice any drop in quality of loot even after the 15th reset.

Wonder if this has an effect of, say, using a monk to repeatedly solo UW.

Maybe a implementation to suggest people to not farm repeatedly the same thing over and over.
If truly how it works, it may be an "auto-nerf" of the drops in that area.

Its pretty obvious they discourage farming with all the nerfs thats going on for the past few weeks, they just don't like farming and that auto-nerf is only temporary, loots go back to normal after a while.

My experiences show that the decrease of drops is decided on how long you spend in each map. Usually, the time required is much lower than your typical UW farm runs, but enough to hurt troll runs (eventhough you don't care about drops here). Not 110% sure, and I don't have the time or will to put more effort into finding out because the GW economy system was created by someone with the same economics knowledge as an 8 year old, but I'm pretty sure that's how it works.

The anti-extreme-farmer system is made so that you will get less drops the more you enter an area. The way to reset this is simply to go and do something else for 15 minutes and then come back.

This isn't a "nerf", it's just trying to stop botters.

Yeah it's more anti-bot code than anything. It's designed to stop bots who go into a zone, kill the first mob or two near the entrance, then rezone to do it again. If you clear the whole zone, or at least spend a decent amount of time in it, you shouldn't ever trigger it. I spent a whole evening clearing Perdition Rock one night and never had that problem. Of course I was slaughtering everything on the island each time though.

Aracos said it perfectly.

The pop-up is to deter people killing the same monster or group of monsters repeatedly but farming the whole zone will not cause this message.

I farmed the entire group of desert griffons in 30 consecutive runs to study the loot patterns and never received any messages.

Killing that same burrower and getting "no loot" for a long time afterwards? Yes, i have been there and done that Even going to Ascalon, relogging or apologising over the chat channel doesn't work. I think it's a time punishment.
Do the crime...do the time.

Anyone know if this is true or not? UW.
it is true

the second message pops up a bit later (maybe 5 more runs) and announces that the mobs will stop giving loot shortly and to play the game.

best way is to rotate your crops by having several places and going from one to the next in random order.

i got my messages going after exp on those 4 mergoyles by the zone in Kryta at at 64 each to get the level i was close to gaining

sad truth is, if it wasnt for farming and the ability to do so solo, this game would be a lot smaller and a lot less played

That's why a good farmer will rotate his/her crops.

Let me start by saying, I know nothing of how the code works in GW.

With that said, the problem my have something to do with server load. I'd think that the biggest draw of info off of the server is when you are creating a new instance. Even if your computer does all the work of loading and rendering, the server still has to figure out where all the baddies have spawned at and everything(I assume). The decrease in drops could have more to do with the server than farming.

Nope, it's from farming like a bot for sure. And has been said rotating your crops (farm areas) is the way to prevent it or get reduced drops for that area. You're basically cheating and manipulating the mechanics of the game when you try to farm that way, go out kill a couple of mobs, zone back in rince and repeat and they discourage this and have implemented a catchall that detects this from players when they do it. It's mostly for bots, but, as the OP found it it can happen to the common joe as well when they try to exploit the system/mechanics of the game. Good job A-Net.

Yes, the are against having to farm. To counter this, they implement abysmal drop rates and punish you for killing the same monsters over and over.

LOL! It's the auto-help, it's simply a helpful tip, not an ominous warning. Go into 'options'/'control setup' and check 'disable hints' and you wont get the warning. I'm guessing most people never see it because most disable hints way back in pre-searing.

EDIT: On the other hand, leaving hints enabled, lets you know when it's time to move to another area...

What if a farmer joins a group doing a quest/mission or whatever that he has just been farming. Put another way I wonder if the decreased drops caused by the farmer overfarming an area follows him into a group and as a consequence affects the drops of the entire team.

*Read the names of my group with a sense of paranoia*

Surely if you want the jaws enough you'd be better to farm the 4 that around that small area, sure there are a few scarabs(sp?) but they arn't much trouble if you only have to fight 2-3.

This is what i've been doing to get jade mandables and burrowers jaws and i have never had that message as i am guessing i am out there long enough.
